Kansas City Barbecue

Kansas City style barbecue is a style of barbecuing that originated in Kansas City, Missouri in the early 1900s. It is characterized by flavorful sauces and rubs, slow-cooking techniques, and a variety of smokey flavors. Kansas City style barbecue is known for its sweet and smoky flavor profile, which is produced by the combination of different spices and marinades used to season the meat. Additionally, this type of barbecuing relies heavily on wood fire smoking techniques that infuse deep smokiness into the final product.

Kansas City style barbecue features pork as its signature meat, usually cooked in a smoker over indirect heat until it is perfectly tender and juicy. However, other meats such as beef brisket, chicken and ribs are also cooked in this way. The meats are then served with a signature molasses or tomato-based sauce made with spices like cumin, paprika and chili powder. The sauce adds an extra layer of richness to the dish and really brings out the smoky flavors from the cooking process.

In addition to these classic ingredients, Kansas City style barbecue also includes special sides such as baked beans flavored with molasses or brown sugar, creamy potato salad loaded with bacon bits or pickles and slaw made from cabbage mixed with mayonnaise or vinegar. These sides provide contrast against the rich flavors of the main dishes and complete this unique kind of barbecuing experience for diners all over America.
