Food is at the core of the aromas and sensations of homeliness

Certain smells can evoke powerful memories and feelings of comfort, familiarity and home. These aromas can be so potent that they can make adults feel warm and fuzzy inside. This is because the sense of smell is closely linked to the part of the brain that deals with emotions.

When it comes to the smell of food, certain aromas are more closely linked with feelings of homeliness. These smells can vary from culture to culture, but some of the most common ones include the smell of a roast dinner in the oven, a well-stocked fridge, bacon sizzling in the pan, freshly made coffee or a loaf of bread baking in the oven.

These smells can all make people feel warm and comfortable, as they remind them of home. This is because the sense of smell is very closely linked to the part of the brain that deals with emotions. When we smell something that reminds us of home, it can trigger happy memories and make us feel happy and relaxed.

This is why aromatherapy is often used to treat anxiety and depression, as it can help to evoke positive emotions by exposing people to certain scents. So next time you find yourself feeling homesick or stressed out, try cooking your favourite dish or spraying some lavender oil around your room – you may be surprised at how effective it can be!

When I was a child, my parents would always bake cookies or cakes on the weekends. The smell of freshly baked cookies would always fill our house with warmth and happiness, and it still brings back fond memories today.

I also love the smell of coffee. My partner makes the best coffee in the world, and the smell of it brewing always makes me feel at home. It's the perfect way to start my day, and it always reminds me of him.

Lastly, I love the smell of bread baking in the oven. There's nothing more comforting than that smell, and it always brings back happy memories of spending time in my grandma's kitchen.
